Why are some silicone molds so much cheaper than others
Lower priced molds almost always use peroxide cured silicone instead of platinum cured, have thinner 2 to 3mm walls, skip vacuum degassing which causes hidden bubbles, and skip the post cure step that removes oily residue. The purchase price is lower but cost per use ends up much higher because the mold fails much sooner.
How long does a production run actually take
Standard catalog molds ship in 3 to 5 business days. Custom shape molds take 3 to 5 days for design and sample, then 7 to 15 days for full batch production after sample approval. Larger orders over 500 pieces may add a few days depending on current factory scheduling.
What is the difference between platinum and peroxide silicone
Platinum cured silicone is food safe has no odor leaves no oily residue and can withstand higher temperatures. Peroxide cured silicone is cheaper but can leave a greasy film has a stronger odor and is not recommended for food contact or premium cosmetic products.
Can you adjust hardness for different products
Yes. We regularly adjust between Shore A 20 and Shore A 50 depending on the application. Softer 20 to 25A is used for delicate resin pieces with lots of undercut detail, harder 40 to 50A is used for high volume chocolate and candy production where sharp edge definition is more important.
